Rising Sun Badge Honored on Postage Stamps

As the sun rises on Australia's Army personnel around the globe, they are united by a small yet significant piece of military tradition: the Rising Sun badge.

Today, Australia Post honours this badge and its importance to the Australian Army, releasing five stamps depicting the changes in the Rising Sun badge design since it was first issued in 1902.

Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Celebrated on Postage Stamps

This year marks the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking 60 years as sovereign.

RMS Titanic Honored on Jersey Postage Stamp

A £3 stamp was issued by Jersey Post on 14 April 2012 to commemorate 100 years since the sinking of RMS Titanic. 
Ten people with a Jersey connection are known to have been on board RMS Titanic on her maiden voyage although the figure does vary. 
The precise number has always been difficult to define due to the confusion on the night, the passage of time and because most of the passengers were from the lower classes meaning that few, if any, details were noted.

New Orleans and Antietam Civil War Battles Featured on Postage Stamps

First Day of Issue: April 24, 2012 New Orleans, LA 70113

The Civil War (1861-1865), the most profound conflict in American history, claimed the lives of more than 620,000 soldiers. Continuing its commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the war, the Postal Service is issuing a souvenir sheet of two stamp designs for 2012.
One stamp depicts the Battle of New Orleans, which was marked on April 24, 1862, by the heroics of Flag Officer David G. Farragut, soon to become the U.S. Navy’s first full admiral.
The other stamp depicts the Battle of Antietam, Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s invasion of the North that resulted in the bloodiest day of the war on September 17, 1862.

Contemporary Dance Postage Stamps Announced

Four new Irish postage stamps celebrating Irish Contemporary Dance were unveiled at the GPO, where details of the Dublin Dance Festival 2012 programme was also announced.

Dancers from the four featured Irish contemporary dance companies - Dance Theatre of Ireland; Coiscéim Dance Theatre, Fabulous Beast and Irish Modern Dance Theatre unveiled the diamond-shaped 55c stamps by top Irish designer, Ms Ger Garland.

New Postal Museum Announced

Plans for a new home for The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) were announced today by the BPMA, Royal Mail Group and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Former Congressman's Inverter Jenny Postage Stamp Sold at Auction

One of the rarest United States postage stamps ever issued -- a 24-cent airmail rate stamp with the center illustration of a Curtiss JN-4H bi-plane inverted -- brought a high-flying price at a New York City stamp auction on March 29.

Postage Stamps Celebrate Farming

Australia Post is showcasing several of the country's many farming industries in a new stamp issue coinciding with the Australian Year of the Farmer. The stamp issue will be released on 20 March 2012.

Artist William H. Johnson Honored on Postage Stamp

One of the country’s foremost African-American artists, William H. Johnson (1901-1970) is today recognized as a major figure in 20th-century American art.
