Estonian Stamp Honors City of Kuressaare

First Day of Issue: May 8, 2013 - Estonia

Estonia has issued a new postage stamp celebrating the 450th anniversary of the City of Kuressaare.

Kuressaare is a town and a municipality on Saaremaa island in Estonia. Kuressaare first appeared on maps around 1154.

The island of Saaremaa was conquered by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword under Volkwin of Naumburg in 1227, who merged with the Teutonic Knights shortly afterwards.
